During our hot South Texas summers, we need our homes to be energy efficient. At nearly 7,000 square feet, running the air conditioner in our San Antonio Living Concept Home could be outrageously expensive, especially in the summertime! But we’re using a space age material under the roof that’s going to keep the costs - and the temperature - way down.
The product is called LP TechShield. It’s a roofing material laminated with a thin aluminum layer that acts as a sort of mirror to reflect the sun’s heat away from the home.
“Standard roof sheathing lets ninety percent of the roof’s temperature enter the attic, where LP Techshield only lets in three percent of the heat,” explains David Drew from LP Building Products. “Reducing the heat in the attic makes everything perform better: the insulation and the air conditioning equipment. The end result is you save money.”
David says the savings could be as much as twenty percent per month.
“It’ll pay for itself typically in three to five years,” says David. “Over the life of the home the homeowner is going to save thousands of dollars by installing Techshield.”
While there are other radiant barriers on the market, none of them shares TechShield’s patented design. TechShield prevents moisture trapping, and we all know that moisture leads to the formation of mold.
In the building process, all the building materials are exposed to elements. They get rained on all the time. TechShield’s manufactured with a patented incising process which allows the panel to dry before, during and after construction.
It’s a radiant barrier and roof decking in one that works so well that running the A/C might not be an everyday necessity anymore!
