Sometimes people who are in financial trouble will try to conceal real estate holdings or use them to conceal money they might owe to creditors. Needless to say these practices are illegal and are often punishable by fines and incarceration. Using land, money made from land, or goods on the land to intentionally defraud, hinder or delay creditors or anyone else who might have a lawful right to your property due to debt is illegal. Each state has their own statues proscribing penalties for these actions. If you're a creditor and you believe that property that may rightfully be yours is being withheld, it's recommended that you consult a real estate lawyer in your area.
