You don't have to visit a salon to pamper your hair. There are many fun and easy treatments you can try at home. One classic conditioner recipe uses mashed avocados or bananas, combined with a little honey. Apply to your hair, cover with a cap, and leave the mixture on for at least 30 minutes, then shampoo as usual. Eggs are a popular hair treatment ingredient. For example, you can beat one egg yolk, add a half teaspoon of olive oil, then slowly stir in three-fourths of a cup of warm water. Wash your hair, then massage the egg conditioner in thoroughly, let set, then rinse. Another variation uses one egg white, beaten until foamy, to which you add five tablespoons of plain yogurt. Hot oil treatments using olive oil are commonly used to revive dry hair, as are applications of plain mayonnaise. There are also many tricks to boost the hair's shine or enhance its color. For example, rinsing hair with lemon water or vinegar and water is said to make it gleam. Beer diluted with water is another rinse option. Other ideas suggest coffee or black tea rinses for brunettes, marigold or chamomile tea rinses for blondes, and solutions of rosehip or red hibiscus (hy-BIHS-kuhs) tea for redheads.
