Colored contact concerns

Set Text Size SmallSet Text Size MediumSet Text Size LargeSet Text Size X-Large
No matter what your natural eye color is, you can now vary it to suit your own style, mood, and occasion. Most contact lenses are available in tints, and some come in a variety of colors to enhance or to change your eye color. They may or may not include a vision correction, although you'll need a prescription from an eye doctor, regardless of whether they include a correction, in order to get fitted properly. If you wear hard lenses, colored contacts may not work for you, because tinted hard lenses don't quite cover your iris, so if you wear them, people may notice your natural eye color under the lens. If you wear soft lenses, however, you have additional choices. Colored contact lenses are available not only in standard, daily-wear lenses but also in disposable lenses. The length of time they can be worn depends on the type of lens, whether it includes a tint or not. There are also novelty, ""special effects"" lenses for Halloween or other occasions that come in various designs, such as a cat's eye or geometric design. There's nothing medically harmful about wearing contact lenses just to change the color or appearance of your eyes. The most important concern when wearing any colored contacts is that they don't impair your vision in any way. It's also important that tinted lenses be given the same care as any other contact lenses, because they're medical devices, not just makeup. They require the same fitting, adjustment period, and care-- whether they're prescription or nonprescription lenses-- so you'll need to buy them from an eye care specialist.
