Admission requirements

Most beauty colleges require that applicants have a high school diploma or a General Education Development certificate, also called a GED (G-E-D) certificate. If you have neither of those certificates, some beauty schools may accept applicants who pass their entrance exam. Generally, there's also a minimum age requirement of at least 17. However, admission policies may vary greatly from one school to another and may also differ by state. In addition to meeting educational standards, some beauty colleges require you to go through a personal interview, in which factors like your attitude, communication skills, creativity, and eagerness to learn are assessed. At others, an orientation meeting may be mandatory for all new students. Most colleges ask for a registration fee to be submitted with your enrollment application. Transfer students will have to meet a different set of criteria. Usually, they're required to provide an official transcript from their prior school and take a series of written and practical examinations. The number of hours that will transfer may depend on your test scores, the college at which the previous courses were taken, and other factors determined by the school to which you apply.
