Years ago, the spare tire could be used to replace a full size tire. Now it's called a temporary spare. As new cars became smaller, conserving space became more necessary. One of the results was a temporary spare, meant for limited use at very limited speeds. In the event of a flat, these temporary spares are used to get you to the nearest service station or tire store. The temporary spare most often used is the high pressure design. These tires require sixty pounds of air pressure to be operated safely. Speeds should be kept under fifty miles an hour or the speed the manufacturer recommends. Remember, the full size tire should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible. A temporary tire is not designed for long term use.
