SAN ANTONIO – The Friday evening after Thanksgiving Day is the time to get out of that turkey-fed stupor and shopping-induced frenzy.
Two annual Downtown events on Nov. 27 promise to light up the holidays in style.
Beginning at 3 p.m., the H-E-B Alamo tree lighting festivities begin. After an evening of music it culminates with the lighting of the 55-foot tree in front of the Alamo around 6:20 p.m.
Along with Santa Claus, the entertainment line-up will include: The Nick Lawrence Band, The Latin Connection, and the Damas de Jalisco Mariachi Group.
It's free and open to the public.
Then head down to the San Antonio River Walk to get a view of the floating parade.
Shortly after 7 p.m., about 122,000 lights will be turned on to illuminate the San Antonio River. They’ll be lit up every night until Jan. 1.
This is part of the 2009 Ford Holiday Parade and lighting ceremony. It’s expected that around 150,000 people will be lining the parade route.
The River Walk will be closed and only ticket holders will be allowed in after 4 p.m.
