While summer can be a great time for relaxation, you don’t want the kids to forget everything they learned. The average student loses about 2.6 months of math and reading skills over the summer - which teachers will end up having to re-teach in the first few weeks of school. Our friend Gina Cruz from Learning RX stopped by to tell us more about what you can do to prevent the “Summer Slide.”

Gina says playing educational games with your kids is a great way to improve their cognitive skills. Games such as Chess, Legos, and Bop-it are fun and easy to play along. Also, take the kids for a educational field trip to the Zoo where they can explore wildlife. Even though you can make it fun and games, make sure your kids are reading every day. Take the kids to the library, the book store, or a park and read along with them.
