SAN ANTONIO - It's something I warned parents and teens about last fall, and now we're getting word it's a growing problem. "Sexting" is on the rise among Texas teens. The Texas Attorney General says just one of those sexually explicit text messages could ruin a teenager's future.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot is speaking out about the dangers of "sexting." According to his office, nearly one in five Texas teens has sent or received sexually suggestive content.

Under Texas law, owning a cell phone with nude or semi-nude pictures of minors can result in child pornography charges. For a teen, a conviction could mean up to ten years in prison; not to mention making it more difficult to get into college, get a scholarship or get a job.

Last year News 4 WOAI looked into sexting at local schools. Investigators here told us they had already looked into a dozen cases in which some the "sexters" were as young as 14 years old.
