SAN ANTONIO - How are you celebrating Tequila Day? Dating back to the 16th century, Tequila is made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila. It's North America's first indigenous distilled spirit.

So on this "Tequila Tuesday" you can enjoy it the way they traditionally do in Mexico, which is to drink it straight. Or try one of the tasty tequila-based recipes below…

I've never seen either one at my local small town liquor store, but I'll look again. I've heard of hornitos but not pura vida. Know a good margarita on the rocks recipe? I wasn't crazy about the recipes I looked at on this article. I want one with only a splash or touch of Grand Marnier, which I HATE!!!! I really, really want to find the perfect recipe. Had a guy at a Mexican restaurant in San Angelo make one for us years ago, but he and the restaurant are now gone, and I never get to SA anymore, but my niece lives there and could ask for me....if I could find Doug!!!! I know that he used a splash of Grand Marnier, along with a touch of orange juice, good tequila, maybe a simple syrup of sorts and a touch of lime juice. Guess I just need to start practicing!!

patron is a very good tequila but try hornitos or pura vida just as good (maybe better) and usually cheaper

Whoo Hoo, I totally agree!!! Hubby and I are margarita fans, and I just bought a sample size bottle of Patron today to decide if its worth the extra bucks. Bet it is. Will look through the recipes and see what I might want to try. Am still looking for that "best in the world" margarita recipe!!!!
