Hints from Heloise
-A recipe that is NOT to complicated or has too many ingredients or too costly.
-Send recipes ahead so the producers can put it up on screen and on saliving.com.
-The San Antonio Living kitchen works, but there is no running water on the set. The cook top takes a while to heat up. And remember to bring everything you need--paper towels, bowls, measuring cups and spoons, etc.
-Everything needs to be prepared/measured/chopped so you can "dump" it all together if possible - unless the producers want to see a lot of this.
-Maybe only 1 actual " measuring/chopping/stir. This makes great visual. This, of course, depends on how much time you have-- more time = more action.
-Bring a lot of stuff to display on the set. For example, bring two sets of spices – one you use and one to display on the counter for cameras to shoot.
-You should bring a “finished product” to show after you assemble the recipe. Also plate it so they can see how nice it looks. Bring plate/bowl/serving dish!
-Or, you can do one ahead and take photo to use if it's too difficult..a 14 tier cake /12 dozen cookies!! Ask the producer who is setting up your segment.
-Can you "cost" it out? Or, approximate. Only $4-5 or less than $1 per serving.
