Drop off your old, gently used, Halloween costumes at one of the participating partners through Oct. 31 and receive a coupon good for 25 percent off your next purchase at Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives’ (RMYA) Thrift Shop at 3103 West Avenue. The coupon is good through Nov. 30, 2009.

“When you drop off a Halloween costume, you are helping children and protecting the environment... and you'll get that extra tingly feeling knowing that you are doing something good,” explains Pam Cardenas, founder of BlewGreen.org.

How does Drop & Treat Help? By donating your costumes from last year, participants will keep the costumes out of the landfills; provide costumes for the children at RMYA to use; and provide revenue for the nonprofit when costumes are sold at the RMYA Thrift Shop. That’s the drop; the treat is a 25 percent coupon, good on any purchase at the RMYA Thrift Shop. The thrift shop sells everything from clothing, to house wares, furniture, toys and more.

Who are the Partners?

BlewGreen.org and Blonde Creative are sponsoring this costume caper to benefit the children at Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives and encourage recycling.  Husband and wife team Louis and Pam Cardenas join forces with their companies and clients to make this Halloween a green holiday with the first Drop & Treat costume drive for RMYA.

Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives is a nonprofit that helps abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes. They also offer a transitional living program for teens aging out of the state foster care system and free family counseling for families in the community with children in crisis.

Pam Cardenas founded BlewGreen.org as a way to encourage everyone to get involved in making San Antonio as “green” as possible. The Web site also recognizes individuals and businesses that do their part in this effort to keep the environment clean.

Louis Cardenas is the owner of Blonde Creative, a San Antonio graphic design studio. Blonde Creative is well known for its efforts with nonprofits as well as corporations large and small.
