SAN ANTONIO - Bring the entire gang down to Blue Star's first Family Saturday of 2012.
The Blue Star Contemporary Art Center will be hosting a family art event on Saturday, January 28 from 9 am until noon. Family Saturday, an education program uniquely constructed for kids and their families, features short, family-geared tours, activity guides and a special art activity led by a local or exhibiting artist. The short guided tours introduce you to the world of contemporary art through exploration of Blue Star's current exhibitions. In addition, you get a Family Activity Guide, the perfect resource for those who want to take a more in-depth look at the art or who prefer to go through the gallery at their own pace.
Family Saturday will feature an activity based on the work of Phillip King, whose large and colorful sculptures are currently on exhibit in the Main Gallery. Emily Barker, Blue Star Membership & Outreach Coordinator, stopped by the SA Living Show Wednesday to show us the featured activity: how to make pop-up cards from recycled folders.
Click here to watch…There will also be a special area where younger children and their parents can color and create together. Family Saturday guided tours and art activities will run several times throughout the morning so that families may choose the duration of time they wish to spend at the gallery.
The event is free, but space is limited. Families are encouraged to reserve their spots by noon on Friday, January 27. To reserve a spot, contact Emily Barker at 210.227.6960 or email Emily@bluestarart.org. Priority registration is available for Blue Star Members. Blue Star Family Membership is available for $60 and funds Blue Star's exhibition and education programs like Family Saturdays! For more information on membership, visit
