If the traditional pumpkins and scarecrows just won't do this fall, here are some easy fall crafting tips to spruce up your home. Craft expert, Linda De La Garza, says adding a touch of fall color doesn't have be expensive or time consuming. Simple ideas will go a long way and can transform any room.
1) Faux Mercury Glass – Love mercury glass, but don’t love the price tag? Here’s a great way to get the same effect without paying a fortune. You will need : Vases, glass containers, or glass candle holders, Krylon Looking Glass Spray paint, spray bottle filled with 50% vinegar & 50% water. In a well-ventilated area, place a drop cloth down. Spray your piece inside vase first. The paint is a bit thin and works best by applying in quick short bursts. Add about five coats. Remember to let dry with each layer (about 1 minute). Once completely dried, spray with the vinegar and water bottle. You will see bubbles. Take a paper towel and pop bubbles gently. You can also rub for more of a distressed look. Do this on both inside and outside of your glass piece. Place on your mantel or table. Looks stunning!
2) Glitter and Spice – Using and faux pumpkin or real this technique is sure to spice up any home. You will need : pumpkin (faux, or real), white paint, spray adhesive, silver glitter. Paint your pumpkin white, let dry. Apply spay adhesive to the areas you want cover in silver. Sprinkle silver glitter immediately and let it dry onto the pumpkin.
3) Cinderella Carriage – Adorable! You will need one Cinderella pumpkin, four small gourds, 3 mini frame boarders, one frame hanger. The small gourds will make the wheels, attach with skewers. Glue frames making them the windows and doors. The frame hanger with be the carriage top. The only thing missing is your prince!
4) Metallica – A splash of gold! This is not your traditional “Jack-o-lantern” but it will look like you’ve hit the “Jack-pot” spectacular! What a great way to warm up any home.
