The Law II - you are correct, the staff should be polite, and so should the provider. Also, yes, the customer/client has the provider and the staff on their "payroll", but let me ask you - when you are the boss, does that mean you are supposed to be rude and disrespectful to your "employees", just because you have that power? That goes BOTH ways. I have encountered very pleasant patients, and have also encourntered people that act like they have the right to speak to me snidely/rudely and expect me to clean up after them because their insurance company is paying me, and that is just as wrong as the staff being rude to a patient. If a staff member calls on you and is interviewing you, please do NOT answer your cell phone in the middle of it all. I work in a children's ER, and am amazed at how many people approach the window while talking on the cell phone (and won't get off the phone)or answer the phone during the interview. I am also amazed to see dirty diapers left on seats in the waiting room, crunched up potato chip and cheeto crumbs all over the floor, spilled soda (usually Big Red, so it is quite noticable). Housekeeping has to cover the entire hospital and can't be there 24/7 to mop it up, and the nurses and techs are overwhelmed with the volume of people we need to process, so we can't very well get out there and patrol the area to be cleaned up. The next thing you know, the place is looking disgusting, and that's ashame. Oh also, please do not sit your child on the counter when checking in - NOT safe, and not sanitary! If everyone works at it (the staff being nice, the receptionist not being "lazy", and the patients being courteous), the experience can be as pleasant as possible for all.

Be On Time For Appointment should be #1! It's always my luck that the walk-ins get to be seen before me, and I'm the one who is smart enough to make an appointment! Damn you Flu Season!

Most importantly remember YOU are the customer and the reason the Dr. can pay his/her staff and if they're rude FIRE them, and find a better Dr. and staff, they are not doing you a favor they are doing what you PAY them to do, don't take any lip from the lazy receptionist/flunkie wannabe office manager who can barelt type or add.
