SAN ANTONIO - There are so many beautiful crafts that you can make with just a few simple items. Start with your basics, paper, paint, glitter, and glue. With these items and a quick trip to the craft store, you can make a lot of items for any holiday. Fall brings so many beautiful colors and you can incorporate all of those colors into your home with these simple and fun craft projects.
The first project is a decorative mirror that will carry you into the holiday season. All you need is a craft mirror; the size of the mirror is your choice. You will also need this wonderful product called Zots. Zots are little glue dots that stick to almost anything. Next you will need something to glue to the mirror. The choices are endless of what you can glue to the mirror, the natural idea like acorns or leaves from outside looks beautiful on the mirror or you can choose an item from the craft store like the little glitter Styrofoam balls that I used, they were already pre-glittered. All you do is stick the item to the glue dot and then stick it on the outside of the mirror. You can put as many rows of the item as you would like. For a final look just add a ribbon bow and a ribbon loop to hang it on the wall.
Another easy project to bring some fall colors to your home is a decorative beaded candle holder. You can use a votive candle holder or a taper candle holder. All you need is one or two glass candle holders fall colored beads, hot glue, and colored wire, I used 26 gauge wires. Be sure to use a pair of pliers when pulling on the wire, your hands have natural oils and the wire will slip right through your fingers. String two beads onto the wire and pull the wire back through the second bead that you put on the wire. Continue stringing the colorful beads onto the wire until you have the desired length for your candle holder. To finish off the string pull the end of the wire back through the second to last bead and cut. You may need to hot glue the ends of the bead string to the glass candle holder or you could use the Zots to adhere the beads to the candle holder.
Picture frames are fun any time of the year and they are very inexpensive to decorate for all the holidays. All you need is a wood craft frame, Americana brand acrylic paint, one or two colors of your choice, a sponge brushes, and some decorative leaves and letters, I spelled out fall on my frame. First you want to paint the frame, you may need two coats, be sure to let the coats dry in between applications. After the frame is dry you can apply the leaves and the letters with either hot glue or Zots glue dots.
There are many fall crafts you can do with just a few items and some help from your local Joann’s Craft and Fabric store. As always remember to get creative and have fun.
