There is nothing secret about being beaten up. Abusers need all the publicity they can receive. If his popularity suffers, so be it.

talking helps victims heal. this abuser would love to keep his embarassing abusive behavior secret for his own pride, then if/when he does it again to someone else, his guilty conscience and the public won't be so bad. he should learn from this, and he has no right to tell any woman to shut up and keep his evil secrets. that is how abusers keep going on, with secrecy and enablers.
