SAN ANTONIO - A second person charged in a Ponzi scheme is heading to prison for stealing from an ex-NFL player T.J. Slaughter and other investors.
News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters uncovered the scam 2 years ago.
A judge on Tuesday sentenced Mary Alice Monteza to ten years in prison. She claimes she is still trying to repay the stolen $850,000.
Monteza and Alan Nelson pleaded no contest to theft charges related to the fake international investing scam.
Probation would have been an option if the pair repaid the money, but it was never done. Nelson was sentenced to seven years earlier this month.
Slaughter once played for Jacksonville, Green Bay, and New Orleans. He said he lost about $150,000.
