How can any company justify picking up a car and parking it a remote lot, then charging $300 to get it out? Thats as much as a car payment on the average American's car, a months grocery for a small family, books for a college semester, close to half a months rent on a 1bedroom apt, 2+ months worth of gas and equivalent to a speeding ticket going almost 30 miles over the speed limit, a violation that actually endangers lives... It's about time this has been regulated. Tow truck companies and drivers are used to "earning" money for an occupation which requires no education, no real skills, and the exploitation of Texas state law. What about the City of San Antonio's mediocre/low income earning population merits the maximum possible fines allowed by Texas law? It's not capitalism, it's greed taking prescedence over law; simply because they could get away with it. But now you can't so deal with it! $85 can get my car to Houston and back so that's more than enough PERIOD

You people doing all the complaing along with San Antonio have no clue what it cost to run a company like that,I think all the towing companies should shut down for a week to allow the city to get their head out of their ass!!

My truck got towed last night. They are still charging close to $300. The police dept gave me a case # and told me to keep all my documentation for a possible lawsuit. Bexar said "we are regulated by the state and not by the city.".. How can you not abide by the rules of your local government?? Wonders what would happen if I refused to abide by my city and state laws and proclaimed that Idgaf about my local jurisdiction, just Federal?? smdh

gofigure, Just who is going to "terminate" these companies. I am just wondering what the City of San Antonio is charging at the impound lot when PD impounds a vehicle. There is a process to go through if you do not feel you were impounded properly and by the letter of the law. The rules and regulations for towing are outlined as well as enforced by the Texas Department of Regulation, and can be viewed on thier website. As far as the ordinance violating federal law, the Obama administration seems to have little regard for federal law, so why should our imp mayor and city council be any different. San Antonio is not pro business. I just can't wait until they start regulating other industries of those who are being conned and do not even know it.

skyforum, your point is mute. Tow truck companies like this one is refusing to abide by the law. If the law says $85, then by golly its $85, no more. What needs to happen here is this specific company needs to be fined and terminated. Someone who is in the position to do that, needs to grow a pair and do just that. Terminate them for not abiding by the law.

How many of you drive a tow truck for a living? Obviously none. If you did, you would fully understand what it costs to run a transportation company in today's world. That amount barely pays the insurance and fuel to operate. That rate also clearly violates Federal law in regards to the deregulation of the trucking industry. The law is clear. the rate charged must be reasonable and compensatory. $85 does not even come close. I stand with the towing company who is fighting the decrease. Most motor club towers in this industry make more per tow than that and it is a known fact that they are woefully underpaid and work for less than minimum wage. Here's another thought. It's always those who get their cars towed repeatedly who do ALL the complaining in forums like this. Might I recommend that these car owners start respecting private property owners rights and quit trespassing instead? Would be far cheaper for you an this entire discussion would be moot. I think the tow operators in this town should stop towing for one week. take a much needed vacation and lets see just how long it is before you will be walking across the dead cars on the highway.
