SAN ANTONIO - It's official: people who had their cars towed in San Antonio this weekend are paying the new, higher fee to get them back. Saturday night towing companies began charging the new tow fee which was passed by the city council late last month.
The new ordinance allows companies to charge $177, plus impound and storage, for a total of $220. Prior to the change, a much-disputed 2002 ordinance had set the towing fee at $85. The city conducted a study which concluded $177 was a fair market price for towing a car off of private property.
