SAN ANTONIO - The News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters help put a crooked repairman behind bars. Robert Maldonado pleaded guilty to ripping off homeowners he was supposed to be helping.
News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Brian Collister has been warning you about this guy for years. We've been investigating complaints about Maldonado ripping off homeowners since 2003. We brought many of those victims to the District Attorney's office and now Maldonado is finally out of business and headed to prison.
Back in 2006 we caught Maldonado on hidden camera trying to rip off the Trouble Shooters by charging for appliance repairs we knew we did not need.
Monday, a judge sentenced Maldonado to a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Many of his victims were in court.
"I would rather have seen more," says Jerry Bergh. He adds, "If it's going to create a situation where he'll never be back on the streets doing what he's been doing, fine."
"He should have had more time then two years," says Diane Williams. "But at least he is off the street and won't be able to destroy anybody else's property."
Maldonado will also have to pay restitution to his victims.
