SAN ANTONIO -- Summer storms are prime for bringing hail our way, and a prime time for scam artists to move in offering to fix the dents in your car and the damage on your roof. That's why News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Brian Collister wants to bring you this Consumer alert before you get ripped off.
Our most important Trouble Shooter advice comes when it's time for repairs: Know who you're dealing with!
If your roof's the problem, watch out for out-of-town roofers who move into an area and set up shop for "storm repairs." Also be sure the roofers you choose have workers compensation and liability insurance. If they don't, you could be stuck with a big bill if one of the workers gets hurt.
If your car looks like a golf ball or swiss cheese, ask a mechanic you trust or your insurance agent to recommend a body shop.
The News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter hotline gets more complaints about car repair and contractors than any other subject. So, we know there are some bad apples out there, but there are also lots of good guys.
Here are some folks who can help you find them: Check out companies on the Central TX Better Business Bureau's Website or you can call them at (210) 828-9441.
