i have two friends, one chose to spank and the other gave time outs, grounded, it is your choice. well, the one that was spanked went to college and has a successful career, the other child didn't want to pay for things, believed eveyone else owed him something. so now he is on probation for stealing and possession. spanking doesn't work my A$$!!!

A child named Jesus who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.

I don't spank. I've had my kid on a behavioral plan since his was 2 1/2 and it works just fine. There are so many tools available to train kids to be well behaved. I don't see the point of hitting them when I'd punish them for hitting someone else. If you're interested, I currently use the behavioral plan at www.threestarbehavioralplan.com

Baven2 you bring up a good point. Back when I was growing up there was no mental health issue that was not quelled with a few swats to the behind with a leather strap. ADHD as well as all of these other "conduct disorder" diagnosis were totally unheard of. The pharmaceutical industry has the country fooled into believing that everything can be fixed with a little magic pill. THe pharmaceutical industry profits billions off this attitude every year. Nobody ever addresses that children today are loaded up on high fructose corn syrup and sugar ona daily basis. Then when they act up they get a pill to allow for them to calm down. To add to this discussion, many parents would also benefit from a good Singapore style caning to adjust their attitude as well.

Instead of paddling put them to work in the hot sun mowing and trimming senior citizens homes.

People who don't know the difference between posting a comment and writing a story need to be spanked.

Spanking is much like many things from the "good old days" that are no longer good enough for today's generation. The only things wrong with spanking were that it was cheap, could be administered by someone that didn't possess a graduate degree in babysitting, and it worked! It sure is funny it was good enough for me and it stymied my developement so terribly that I was barely to be productive enough to earn enough to fund the education of three of those educated babysitters to the Master's level. I sure am glad I raised my kids when I did instead of now.

No wonder we have a generation of brats and deadbeat parents!! I NEVER did anything wrong for the fear of getting spanked and I see this happening..... What kind of society have we de-evolved into?!

My son had ADHD when he was younger, and the only thing he responded to was being spanked (because it hurt and it was immediate negative feedback to his behaviour). I swear to God I had four doctors tell me to medicate him with every chemical cocktail you've heard of for ADHD. I was seriously torn, but in the end it was hell no. Old school spanking kept him in line, and he's much better off for it now. I'm not saying it's for your family, but don't necessarily believe the psychobabble nonsense the doctors will tell you that medication is the only answer. It's a brain problem they say. Ya well, the brain can change.
