this is not capatalism. socialism or corporate welfare is more appropriate. why is the city picking winners and losers by giving an one an advantage over an other. AT&T had a 20 year abatement. once it ran out they pack there bags and headed out of town. collecting no tax. hiding under the cloak of capitalism is not capatism.

agreed, doc! here's another fact...many of those who are hired on at certain places that require you to pass a test for a license of some sort....can't pass that test to obtain those licenses and are therefore, let go.

I agree with most of the points listed below. I also wonder how many of those job positions not filled were due to the lack of a formal education required for specific jobs. SA can not offer all those Civil Service, no education required jobs anymore, that were present 20-30 years ago.

how about finding out how much turnover these companies have had over the past couple of years and how hard it is to find competent workers in this town? these companies come here because they are promised tax breaks and grant money, but when it actually comes to hiring competent people, they can't find them. just ask any of them from allstate, kohls, any of them who come from other states. they will tell you the work ethic of folks from SA is the worst they've ever seen...entitlement attitudes, something for nothing...it runs rampant. and these are not hard jobs folks...call centers mostly. allstate came here to open a bi-lingual call center...couldn't find enough employees who spoke actual spanish, not tex mex, to fill those positions. couple your stats with turnover rates, WOAI, and i bet you'll find an interesting trend :)

My question is why has there been no oversight at the City? Who is responsible for tracking these contracts? I'd have their backsides to the fire right about now, because it took someone at WOAI to track all this information down and present the shortfalls. The ED director is doing a nice little sidestep, isn't he?

Teachers should show these news to students and explain to them what corruption is and how it spreads among us. Sometimes the government has good intentions, but they fail the same, under the weight of international corporations so greedy they don't even care to pretend to be decent. Anyway, they are corrupt either by commision or by omission. Teach the kids to stay away from the corrupt people and institutions.
