SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs have waived veteran forward Michael Finley after nearly five seasons.

The Spurs said Monday that Finley had asked to be released from his contract, which was in its final year. The 36-year-old saw his playing time cut drastically this season after being demoted to the bench.

Finley, who will turn 37 this week, can still sign with a playoff contender.

Finley missed several weeks with an ankle injury and appeared in just 25 games, averaging 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. He joined the Spurs in 2005 in search of an NBA championship, which he finally got in 2007.

that would be funny if he hit the game winning shot/series ending vs the spurs in the playoffs.

He will end up on a team that will slap the SPURS around in the playoffs.
