By Kyle Boenitz, Project Spurs.comThe San Antonio Spurs are usually the team staying out of the headlines. They’re quiet, they take care of business and they win year after year. I guess there are a few exceptions, namely Tony Parker’s occasional playboy lifestyle and drama, but for the most part, the Spurs are pretty squeaky clean.
Lately that hasn’t been the case. The Spurs became the big story in the NBA when they were fined for resting their starters against the Miami Heat. They added on when a picture started circulating from a Halloween party where Tim Duncan and Tony Parker were pointing fake guns at a guy dressed as referee Joey Crawford. And finally, Stephen Jackson was fined $25,000 for a tweet threatening to punch Serge Ibaka.
To the rest of the world, this deviation from the norm might seem like it would hurt the team, but coach Gregg Popovich says that’s not the case.
