Manu Ginobili says “MVP” chant makes it hard to shoot free throws

SAN ANTONIO - Spurs fans have new hope. They have more faith than at any other time this season because of one guy: Manu Ginobili.

Manu has, by himself, given the Spurs a fighting chance in the playoffs. Call him their leader or the best player on the team, but don't call him the MVP.

“Yeah, I don't like it,” Manu told News 4 WOAI. “First of all because I don't deserve it at all. Of course I feel honored. Our fans, how they support me. How they respect me. But it's hard to go shoot free throws when they are chanting that and I'm not even close.”

Manu may not think of himself in the same category as Kobe or Lebron, but when you define "valuable," it's easy to see that the Spurs are a contender with him and perhaps a lottery team without him. The Spurs are 11-4 since Parker got hurt and Manu took over leadership of the team. Over that stretch he's averaging 25.5 points per game and 31 points versus playoff teams.

So now the Spurs front office has some very important decisions to make. Manu becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and will test free agency offers.

When in doubt always remember. What would Manu Do?

pdunk, you are right about Malik. Pop gave a huge raise and then something happened that Malik did to piss off Pop. Next, think we knew, he was sitting on the bench and then gone. Manu, however, is probably the best liked Spur. He has always, barring injuries, played with passion. IMHO, the only Spur that plays to win no matte what. Spurs are better with Manu by far, then with RJ. The only think I don't like about Manu or Parker, is their desire to play for their country. I guess I'm selfish, but the possibility of them getting hurt is real and it has happened. But yet we had Duncan play for USA. Only diffence the US players share the load. France and Argentina rely to heavily on Parker and Manu. Let's hope Spurs open their eyes and realize Manu is too valuable to let go.

What you guys will be witness to with Manu this summer is the Malik Rose Syndrome... Everyone likes him except for Pop and he goes BYE BYE!

Spurs will be more worried about holding on the Hill, Blair, and Parker. In the meantime, will allow the Jefferson experiment to continue.

He's a goner Visitor.

The guy is basically playing hard for a new contract, whether it's here or with another team. I personally don't think he will sign here with what Jefferson is making and contributing.

Manu isnt just the heart of this team, he is the cajones as well!
