They were missing shots and not trying to test the defenses they were playing against. Manu Ginobili knows the answer to this as he explains in his column on Canchallena.lanacion.com.au:
It would not be a problem if it were the first time, but the reality is that in three of the last four games were very bad to attack. Against New York were tired because we were playing four games in five nights and could have less energy. We returned to be better against Philadelphia, but against New Orleans kicked again. And last night, against Lakers, it happened again.
