Danny Ferry is headed to Atlanta for another shot as a general manager. The San Antonio Spurs vice president of basketball operations will be leaving San Antonio for the second time to take a GM job.

Back in 2005, Ferry was working for the Spurs but in June he accepted an offer from the Cleveland Cavaliers to be their GM. After five years and an NBA Finals appearance, he came back to the Spurs front office. Now, he’s going to join the Hawks to replace retiring GM Rick Sund.

"Over the past nine years Danny Ferry has earned tremendous respect as a front office executive in the NBA," said Hawks co-owner Bruce Levenson.

"His philosophy, character, and commitment to creating enduring and successful organizations exemplify exactly what we are looking for in a leader of the Atlanta Hawks. Danny's systematic and value-driven approach has helped him become one of the pre-eminent minds in basketball. He is passionate about building an organization the right way, knows how to win and knows how to forge winning teams. We look forward to having him as our leader of basketball operations."

Ferry is clearly a highly desired executive.
