SAN ANTONIO -- Judson High School's Head Football Coach Jim Rackley is stepping down.

Rackley announced his retirement Tuesday after a total of 26 years at the school.

"This is the toughest decision I've ever made.  I'll miss the game, the coaches, the camaraderie - but I'll miss the kids the most, I love those boys," Rackley said.

Judson ISD officials say Rackley plans to retire January 31st to become a full-time rancher. He became Head Football Coach of Judson in 2001. The Rockets won five District Championships and a State Championship and went to the playoffs nine of Rackley's 11 seasons as head coach.

"I want to thank the entire Judson community for their tremendous support over the years.  Football is such a great game, but the ultimate goal is to make sure the boys learn about becoming good, responsible men."

Defensive Coordinator Mark Soto has been named interim Head Coach while the district searched for a permanent replacement.

For once I would like similar coverage when a librarian, history or special ed teacher retires. Coaches are highly paid and are not the only ones who make a big difference in the lives of young people. I've actually known of many coaches, male and female, who don't have patience except with the winners. They bully and curse their way to victory. On the newcast last night all I saw were stone face young men. Didn't see enthusiasm either. Football is way over rated and has questionable value in an academic setting when so mcuh money goes into it.

Yoyo2: Have asked about you and looked for you a number of times. Figured you'd been kicked off and am so happy to see you back. Unfortunately, I may be the next one to go. Seems my post on here was deleted, so the individual that did that is probably now after me, and I KNOW that he's gotten at least one other kicked off. Hope that you had a great holiday season. Me....NO!!! Drought, ranching business, couple weeks of showers, slush, & cold and weakened livestock having trouble dealing with it. Oh well...I pray that 2012 will be better....but it hasn't started out that way, but one can't expect change and miracles overnight. Glad to have you back and will look forward to seeing your comments. However, I rather suspect you need to hold back on the wet fart comments because I'll bet that had something to do with you getting blocked for a while. I don't understand one thing, tho. A couple of times I've tried to report a post & have it removed because it was exceptionally heartless and cruel, and it never happens for me. Yet, the one that had my post removed from here has posts removed all the time. How does he do it?!?!?!?!

I never met the man but had plenty of respect for him. I did on one occasion email him (and he opened it and deleted it. I tracked it)once to let him know that I would be "on the field" when his team played John Paul Stevens (who beat them twice on Judsons field). I told him how glad I was to be able to possibly meet him and shake his hand. The man did not have the courtesy to respond. That is how I remember him!!

The average Judson teacher with experience earns about $50k a year. Rackley earns almost double, bringing in almost $100k a year. That's how you know where the priorites in Texas' schools are.

it's also amazing how someone, such as yourself, can post about judging people you don't know and how horrible it is, while doing it yourself :) I don't have to know all people at Judson ISD to know that it's full of crooks :) LOL...maybe you should take a lesson of your own in "practicing what you preach"

It amazes me that such idiots as txmike, bobcat, and stillstunned can judge someone they know nothing about. What is EDUCATION? Only the learning of academic lessons? What about learning how to work hard to get to a goal? What about the life lesson of winning and losing? What about the kids that are borderline but because of athletics they stay in school and end up getting a quality education. Seems to me that txmike was one of those kids that never amounted to anything and he and picked last Bobcat hate all athletics. Get over it. Stillstunned, you only wish that you had a tenth of the Christian Faith that Coach Rackley has.
