SAN ANTONIO -- A high school baseball player was hospitalized after being hit by a pitch in Thursday night's game between Madison High School and MacArthur High School. It happened at the Blossom Athletic Center on the north side.
Spectators say the MacArthur senior was up to bat. When the Madison pitcher threw the ball, the MacArthur player turned his head, and that's when the baseball hit him in the back of the head. Fans say the ball hit the helmet so hard, the helmet cut the player's face.
They saw the player get knocked out but say he was moving when he was taken to the hospital. A baseball to the head can be a potentially deadly scenario so friends say the mood was tense after the player hit the ground.
Fortunately, friends say they've heard from the player's family that X-rays showed the boy will be okay. He remained in the hospital Thursday night as a precaution.
The game continued as normal after the injury.
