SAN ANTONIO – The News 4 WOAI sports team has confirmed that Mark Smith will be the new head football coach at Judson High School.

A source at Judson told News 4's Don Harris that, "It will become official tomorrow, but Smith is the man."

Smith has been the coach at Kerrville Tivy for the past ten seasons. He coached record-setting quarterback Johnny Manziel while with the Antlers.

The Judson school board will vote on the matter in a special meeting on Friday night, but the source told News 4 WOAI that is just a formality.

Smith replaces Jim Rackley, who is retiring at the end of the month.

Lee Bridges of Stevens High School was considered to be the other front-runner for the job.

Who cares about Sequin. We all know Sequin and Football don't go together. As for a new Judson coach; it doesn't really matter. Steele H.S. is and has been the new standard for Region 4 football ever since Jinks started coaching there.

Smith is known for being bought out by parents' of Matador athletes in Seguin thats why he left, he couldn't get along with the bruthas, BEWARE JUDSON ROCKETS, oh well he'll fit in well with the Converse Police Department....!!!

It's a shame that the guys who are coaching in Judson ISD are passed over and didn't even make the finalist list. It's even more amusing that only 4 board members knew of the new coach prior to loud mouth, loose lip board member running to all the media to get the story out. Mark Smith will do just fine but it makes you wonder why Jinks backed out. Maybe something was said as to who the next coach would be and the "process" was just a formality. Best wishes to Coach Rackley and Good Luck to Coach Smith.

Annegray... I don't think the people of Judson really care as long as they are winning... and they will win with Smith. Whatever he has been doing, it is working.... stop drinking the haterade!

My concern, as a Kerrville resident, is the blatant way that Coach Smith REQUIRES his players to "have a faith." Now we all know that means the Christian faith. They do lots of TBowing (before anyone heard of Tebow) and I think the man regularly and blatantly violates school policy regarding mixing religion and public education. (I am a Christian) Beware, Judson, and stop him before he gets started with that! It is tantamount to bullying to require students to participate in something they may not believe in or be comfortable with. Peer pressure, not to mention, coach pressure is enormous. Not everyone has to wear his religion on his sleeve, whatever brand it is.

This out to be interesting. Can Mark Smith who has coached good ol boys from Kerrville, relate to the Judson ghetto players.
