Since this will be the last chili bowl, are they expecting an above average number of people to show up? If so will they be changing the venue to something bigger like the alamodome? It would be a shame if some people were unable to watch the game live due to the venue reaching maximum capacity. Just a thought.

The one thing I was just thinking about is the Band Program. What will become of that? I mean it is not the same to see a Marching Band at a Volleyball or Basket Ball game. And I doubt they will allow them to do a half time show at a Soccer Game for that matter. So with Football out the door is the Band Program too? After all Band is what makes the Football Games more entertaining and is another discipline tool used to enhance a person's smarts and instill responsibility just like the same way Sports is often pitched to the kids!

As a Lanier alumni, I understand change is needed to help students remain competitive in the educational field. However, I would have liked to see a compromise to keep community engaged with students and school personnel. The Chile Bowl was a homecoming tradition which will be remembered for years to come. I think an annual SAISD celebration is needed, we should gather at the rock pile in November to reminisce about our days at Lanier and Fox Tech; think of it as a revenue generator with 14,000 in attendance.

I do believe of course that education is the main idea and priority of what being in school is all about, however I also believe that if you do not have something to get yourself away from all of the books and studying etc. like healthy sports, the children will find something else to help them get away, perhaps something unhealthy. Also, I do not believe that football or any other sport could be a distraction, but perhaps even a sense of pride of their school or where they attend. When and if( hopefully) they continue onto college, they will be proud to state what high school they attended etc. For example, with Chili Bowl, people have been talking about it for years. As a matter of fact, it connects us with our sense of pride. I was just talking about Chili Bowl and learned that two of my supervisors graduated from there about 20-30 years ago, as well as their parents! Talk about tradicion! This has now helped me build a deeper connection with them. I am not saying that school should concentrate solely on sports and entertainment, but it does help the kids have something to look forward to, and also to look back on.

I think that we should concentrate more on education for the children rather than a football game. It's obviously lacking Lanier High School. Especially considering that Lanier High School only graduates 72% of it's students and the entire SAISD graduation rate is 97%. A problem don't you think?

Chili Bowl is not only a game, a tradition, but it is a Religious event to some. I myself am a Tech grad of 2003. My wife c/o 2006, My sisters c/o 94, 96, & 07. Both my parents lanier grads c/o 75. It is not only a place where you see old classmates but blood relatives. I never thought i would see the day that there would not be a chili bowl. I cried when i heard the news. I learned the game if football by watching the chili bowl. My best memories of my late father & I are those from the chili bowl. I will be at this final Chili bowl with my wife, youngest sister and mother, not to mention my tech family. We will be there to take in the glory and aww of the chili bowl. I hope to see you all there. Good luck to both teams. lets all wear our respective school colors with more pride then ever. No fights just one solid, united sea or red and blue. lets make this the greatest chili bowl ever.

Fox Tech high school has been full of traditions for years and years, and alumni keep coming back to relive their traditions and their high school days. If they close the school down and get rid of Chili Bowl, what will the Alumni have to come back to?? This is ridiculous, they cannot just shut down a world of memories and traditions! I for one am class of 2006, and my husband is class of 2003. We truly thought we would be able to take our future children to future chili bowl games and share our passion and pride with them.

erica... maybe if you paid attention you would know this has nothing to do with parents "keeping there kids in check" it is about the district saving money!

It is about time... Schools should focus resources on education, not "popularity click" sports or entertainment for parents!

Its about time the SAISD started saving other peoples money. Now they need to get rid of so many School Districts. Dallas, Houston and El Paso only have one. Why so many here? Teachers Union???
