My name is Eric Johnson and most of my life I have been in this great city. I am a graduate of John Marshall High School and being a photographer in my hometown has some very interesting dynamics! I get the opportunity to see and meet so many people here and my job never gets old because it is constantly changing… almost by the hour!
I have seen our city’s most tragic sights, as well as our greatest events, and it doesn’t matter how good or bad the situation might be, it’s usually breathtaking.
Another big part of my job here at WOAI is handling the helicopter! Every morning our SkyNews4 pilot Chris and I take off from the airport and go in search of news. This is a very rewarding experience for me because we often fly over areas with traffic issues and try to inform the viewers to be cautious or try a different route.
People sometimes ask what I like the most about riding around in the helicopter. In the morning and there is nothing quite like watching the sunrise while downtown San Antonio goes about its business.
We also go on special missions, like the wildfires in the Bastrop and Stone Oak areas which was a shocking site from five thousand feet up.
Everyday brings a new experience for me at WOAI and I have already formed many incredible memories. So what will tomorrow bring??? I have know idea, but you can be guaranteed that by ground or the through the air I will be there with my camera.
