SAN ANTONIO -- Police are actively searching for the suspects behind the attacks on women along the Interstate 10 corridor between Callaghan Road and DeZavala Road. Since September, eight women have been attacked.

"The attacks are split between robbery and sexual assault," said William McManus, San Antonio Police Chief. "In some cases it's both,"

The latest victim was attacked last Wednesday just before 2 a.m. on the 4900 block of USAA Boulevard. Chief William McManus said a man approached the victim's car demanding her purse, while giving her sexually explicit instructions.

"The victim refused, her purse was thrown back at her and the actor ran away," said Chief Mcmanus.

Police don't believe the same person is responsible for all eight attacks.

News 4 WOAI Crime Tracker Specialist, Gilbert De La Portilla, says attackers are always looking for potential victims, so it's important to be alert.

"Don't talk on the phone when you're walking towards your car," said De La Portilla. "Have your keys in your non-dominant hand in case you need to strike."

De La Portilla also advised people to press the panic button on their car key if they are attacked, potentially causing the suspect to abandon their plan and run away instead. He also said if victims yell, they should yell "fire."

"When people holler help, others kind of shy away," said De La Portilla. "They may look and say, 'I really don't want to get involved,' but when you holler fire, people want to see what's happening."

So far, police do not have a clear description of the suspects behind the attacks. If you have information on any of the crimes, call Crime Stoppers at (210) 224-STOP.

More women need to ARM themselves with EVIL semi-automatic " assault " pistols/guns. ( AKA= Every modern, common use firearm now in the USA ) After these scumbags start going to jail with bullet holes and the morgue, it will stop. WOMEN, REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM!

CommonSense77 - "actor" in this case refers to the person who is committing the "act", not someone on stage. Also, LindaB - you have some ignorant comments wrapped inside your advice. Just because you're tucked in bed at 2am doesn't mean the whole world stops. Other people DO work late / night shifts. Not only are there a couple of strip joints, but 4 or 5 hospitals in that area - are you saying thoe employees / patients are scumbags, too? And to tell people to STOP going out after midnight is just crazy - you're blaming the victim instead of the attacker. Same thing as saying a girl shouldn't wear a short skirt because someone will attack her for that.

Not to mention that there are 3 or 4 strip clubs around that area. Anyway, women, stay ALERT,Stay ARMED,and always be Ready! 2:00 in the morning is when all the scumbags are out. Anyone out at that time is up to no good anyway. Stop going out after midnight, and if you HAVE to be out, then ALWAYS be READY! Thanks to SAPD we KNOW the vicinity that they are casing! Welcome them with open fire!

Hopefully that will happen to these worthless scumbags!!....Gosh, they could even lose some of their bodily equipment with the NEXT victim. SAPD should put decoys out there...set them up...

Copy/Paste directly from the article on 1-9-2013, 6:57 AM (just in case it changes later...) >>"The victim refused, her purse was thrown back at her and the actor ran away," said Chief Mcmanus.<< The 'actor' ran away? An actor playing an attacker, maybe?
