The petition asked that we be allowed to "withdraw from the USA peacefully", as did the petitions from other states that were sent. Thank's to the current powers that be, our paychecks are smaller this year, and that's just the start. Wait till they start taking out your insurance premiums. No matter how you feel about the current people in power, you can't help but notice that they want to spend, spend, spend, raise the debt ceiling so that we can pay our bills. But where are the spending cuts? Where are they making sure that in 6 months, a year, two years we won't be in the same situation? Oh yeah, they raised taxes. But it's not going to be enough to get us out of this mess. We elect these people to represent us. I will never understand how funding a rum factory in Puerto Rico will do us any good. And Nascar tracks? Really? I do not know what their agenda is, but it really looks like they are intentionally trying to bankrupt this country. And without spending cuts and control and a budget (which we haven't had in quite awhile) that's exactly where we are going to end up. You cannot blame states and their people for wanting nothing to do with the mess the people in Washington DC created and continue to create.

During the previous discussions for secession, I saw polls done by news organizations all around the state, and they were all similar to the one sandymike mentioned from the Houston Chronicle. There was also a big scare about signing the petition and becoming a target for the administration. Don't you remember that? The fear went beyond the Texas petition. Each state with a petition suffered the same statewide fears of its citizens. And, there are other fears among those that would like to secede to get out from under Obama and his party's and cronie's mismanagement, dictatorship, and grab for total control. The Constitution and our rights mean nothing to them. To quote you: "But if "we" means all the extremists that want to stomp their feet and have a hissy fit and want to secede because democracy didn't work in their favor for this time....by all means, please do." It's not a hissy fit, it's the desire to save ourselves, even if it's one state at a time. You say you're not an Obama supporter, so you shouldn't be blind to what's going on and what we're at the risk of losing. Oh, and there are more left leaning people on here than you think. How have you missed them......other than due to the holidays and so many not being around, as well as all the spam crap driving so many others (all sides) away. Now, I'm off to bed. Have a nice night.

Again, gender has nothing to do with this topic, nor does sexuality. You only prove you have nothing of value to add. Sorry if you feel that women or gay men are inferior to you and do not have a place in the conversation. Normally I avoid your ludicrous posts. I will continue to do so as clearly you can not have a rational conversation. Good night.

The White House petition for Texas to secede had 125,746 signatures. Not all of those signatures came from Texas residents. Considering Texas has a population of well over 25,000,000 (that's twenty-five MILLION) and the petition was very well publicized, the lack of signatures leads me to believe the majority of Texans do not wish to secede. I am not sure how the Houston Chronicle achieved those results. But, if it is like this website, the actual statistics are not always accurately reflected. If you were to base San Antonio's political views from here (WOAI), you would guess that it was an extremely conservative/ Republican city. Yet, the majority (although not by much) of San Antonio votes Democrat. This is evidenced by the mayor and a good amount of elected officials representing districts here. Obama also had the majority of votes in SA. I didn't vote for him, but I am not going to impose my will on others. That's why we live in a democracy. I think the reason why the views of the more left leaning people are not reflected on this site are because of the overwhelming negativity which borders on harassment when you speak a view which does not align with those who post here daily. A lot of folks don't come back. But I appreciate your well thought out post which included a reference/ source. All conversations SHOULD be able to remain civil.

Oh ok NurseNick, you're a rambling woman using a man's account, that makes a ton of sense. Anyway, if you think I'm extremist when the democratic pendulum swings one way, I couldn't care less. If and when the pendulum swings back, just watch a liberal scream murder, racism, and calamity the other way.

nurse nick, recently the houston cronicle did an online survey of its readers (i'm guessing its not scientific but does give one a feel for the atmosphere)on whether or not they would support seceding. 78 % let me type that again so you know i did not make a mistake; 78% support secedeing (no idea of the correct spelling tried both ways and neither look correct). i would submit that possibly your out of touch with the way a good many texans feel. i know most that i talk with feel that may be the way to go if there are no major changes in our government in the next year. i also don't think people realize the changes that would be necessary to achieve such actions. and once they did may think its not such a good idea. even so i think at the present time our country is headed in the wrong direction with no hope of change thereby making suceding the only way we can save ourselves (texans). i believe when baven says we he is talking about the majority and from what i've read and heard he is right on the money. some of the other comments seem to come from an idiot's point of view.

Wow, personal attacks from the likes of you *yawn*...shocking. My husband and I share an account, we are both nurses. It's a well paying job that makes a difference in people's lives. Should he work in an oilfield? Would that be manly enough for you. Not that it is any of your concern. Gender or sexuality is completely irrelevant to this topic. Your question does however speak more clearly of your character. We are also NOT liberals and NOT Obama supporters. Your comment was "we can secede whenever we want to". I am not included in that "we" because I do not want to secede. By stating "we" you include yourself. That is the very nature of the English language which I will presume you have some mastery of... "WE /we/Pronoun 1)Used by a speaker to refer to himself or herself and one or more other people considered together: "shall we have a drink?". 2)Used to refer to the speaker together with other people regarded in the same category: "we teachers"."....So, if "we" means Texas, not all of US want to, only a small percentage, so....no WE can't. But if "we" means all the extremists that want to stomp their feet and have a hissy fit and want to secede because democracy didn't work in their favor for this time....by all means, please do.
