SAN ANTONIO -- Many people have and like front-loading washing machines. But it turns out some of them are smelly.
It seems many front-load washers have mold problems.
In one model, the owner says the mold grows behind the gasket, which keeps the water from leaking out. Mold can also grow in the drawer where you put the detergent.
Consumer Reports says people across the country who have these types of washers are complaining.
"Based on the anecdotal evidence we have from consumers, this is not limited to one brand or one type of front-loading washing machine," explained David Butler of Consumer Reports. "It seems to be a problem with many different models."
If you have a washing machine like this, try cleaning out your washer on a regular basis. Some people leave the door on the washing machine open after use to help it air out.
There are also special cleaners designed to clear the smell.
