SAN ANTONIO -- Even though Thanksgiving is right around the corner, many are already preparing for a very special Christmas event and they're asking for the community's help.

The annual "Flight to the North Pole" gives children suffering from cancer, the chance to experience the holidays. Many of these children traditionally spend the holiday in the hospital.

Now in it's 27th year, event organizers decorate a plane hangar and aircraft with Christmas decorations. Organizers also dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus to help get the children in the Christmas spirit. Once the children arrive, they are led onto the plane and the pilot fires up the engine, simulating an actual flight to the North Pole.

"It's very fulfilling to all of us to see the smiles on these kids faces," said Scott Miller, a pilot for the event. "They can forget about being sick for a little while and just be kids, and have a great party."

Each child also gets to go home with a free goodie bag. However, organizers still need toy donations for the event, which will occur next Saturday, December 1st. They will be accepting donations up until next Wednesday, November 28.

If you would like to donate toys, you can contact event organizers at (210) 563 - 6656.

You can also drop off toys at: 1000 Skyplace Boulevard, San Antonio, TX 78216
