Hey, why don't we find an older group of COs, and ask THEM what the drinking age should be. I may be wrong, but the answer probably won't be "18". While we're at it, why not ask them if they wouldn't mind weed being legalized in the military. Anyway, even though someone can nobly decide to be part of the military at 18 doesn't mean they have a lick of sense between their ears otherwise. At that age they're being told when they can stand, sit, breath, flatulate, and sneeze; but the discipline doesn't make them any more qualified to handle their liquor.

There's scientific proof that brains aren't fully matured until around age 25, I think they should go ahead and raise the age of joining the military to 21 instead of lowering the drinking age. Too many young men are coming back in wheelchairs missing too many limbs. There's smarter ways to join the military, get a Bachelors Degree in Engineering first before signing up if you want a good career in the military. Sometimes the military ends up grooming real killers who kill outside of the military orders. And don't forget the recent report that more military are committing suicide than dying in combat from the 2 wars. Sad to see. I grew up living on military bases and they don't really believe in mental help even though they say they do.

Not to add to much to the mix here but most bases follow the rules of the states where they are located when it comes to the drinking age. So the federal and state law portion of this debate isn't really relevant.

State law does not apply to federal installations. This state rep must be an idiot to waste time on this issue. Why not address the issue of DWI's, school safety and funding, border security, welfare reform, etc. I guess this state rep has too much time on his hands.

I feel that as long as the law is valid on the military bases only, drink up my friends!

An 18 year old is a legal adult. The law should not prohibit any adult from drinking a legal beverage - Rather he/she is in the military is not an issue.

It is about time that they are considering lowering the drinking age for active duty memebers of the military. Many military members use to get into hot water with underage drinking charge and yet they can get deployed and play an gamble on their lives.

This guy obviously doesn't have enough to keep him busy as a state representative. Let's lower the drinking age to 18 for military enlistees. That way more of them can DWIs along with setting christmas trees on fire at Denny's, falling off parking garages downtown, etc. Who is this fool Lozano?

Don't be ridiculous. Laws governing the military are federal laws, and we are talking about state laws here. Our state legislators cannot control the feds. As a military officer, lawyer, and prosecutor, I fully support the idea that active duty military members should be able to consume alcohol at any age. I find in my line of work that about the only trouble underage drinkers get into is for the act of drinking itself. It is typically the older Soldiers who commit other acts of misconduct while drinking.
