TRAFFIC ALERT: Major closures on Highway 281 this weekend

SAN ANTONIO -- Get ready for major delays on Highway 281 this weekend.

The US 281 southbound main lanes from Loop 1604 to Donella will be closed Saturday, May 5 at 4:00 a.m. and reopen Monday, May 7 at 5:00 a.m. The closure will allow crews to continue placing five steel beams for the direct connector and to remove the retaining wall at the old entrance ramp.

Detour:

Traffic will be detoured to the US 281 southbound frontage lanes and will use the US 281 south entrance ramp at Donella.

The closure will include the US 281 southbound frontage lanes (in front of Bill Millers) to be closed five separate times for 30 minutes throughout the weekend.

US 281 southbound frontage lanes will be closed for 30 minutes:
Saturday, May 5
7:00 - 7:30 a.m.
8:00 – 8:30 a.m.
11:00 - 11:30 a.m.
3:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 6
7:00 - 7:30 a.m.

The 30 minute closures are to allow cranes to move the five steel beams. All lanes will reopen as soon as work is completed.

Detour:

Traffic traveling US 281 southbound frontage lanes will be detoured at the US 281/Loop 1604 intersection to turn right onto Loop 1604 westbound frontage or left onto Loop 1604 eastbound frontage.

US 281 Northbound Left Main Lane Closed Saturday, May 5 and May 6, 2012

The US 281 northbound left main lane from the Loop 1604 exit ramp to Loop 1604 will be closed daily Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This closure is to allow room for the cranes working on the US 281 southbound steel beams.

Loop 1604 Eastbound exit ramp to Gold Canyon Closed Saturday, May 5

The Loop 1604 exit ramp to Gold Canyon and the Loop 1604 eastbound left frontage lane from the exit to Gold Canyon will be closed.This closure is for Saturday, May 5 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to pour concrete.

Detour:

Traffic traveling Loop 1604 eastbound will exit US 281 for Gold Canyon
