SAN ANTONIO -- Toyota is answering questions after a lawsuit accuses the company of withholding information about some of its vehicles involved in hundreds of rollover accidents. The suit was filed by Dimitrios Biller, a former Toyota attorney who lives in Los Angeles. It states that Biller "became aware of Toyota's conspiracy to conceal, withhold, and destroy evidence and information, and obstruct justice, during his employment at Toyota."
Biller says the company hid information in more than 300 rollover accidents. When victims of those crashes and their families sued Toyota, Biller says the automaker withheld e-mails and crash test data that proved there were structural problems with the roofs on the vehicles. The cases mentioned in the lawsuit involve Toyota 4Runners.
A spokeswoman for Toyota issued a statement saying, "Toyota takes its legal obligations seriously and works to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards. Mr. Biller continues to make inaccurate and misleading allegations about Toyota's conduct."
Biller says he was forced to resign from Toyota in 2007. He reportedly got a $3.7 million severance agreement. According to the suit, he is now seeking damages for emotional distress, mental suffering and lost wages.
