SAN ANTONIO -- Since 2007, more than 95,000 registered sex offenders have been removed from social websites like Facebook. Because of such high numbers, a local state representative wants to make sure you know who is asking to be your friend on social websites.

Democrat Trey Martinez-Fischer has pre-filled a bill for the upcoming legislative session that would require convicted sex offenders in Texas to make sure their crime is prominently displayed in their Facebook profiles. The profile would need to have the offender's address and details of their crime.

Another nearly brain-dead politician looking to stand on the rotting not-yet-dead sex offender's bodies to make themselves look tough on crime. Hey, you narrow-minded self-centered public "servant", A. Do you know how the internet even works? B. Once someone has been convicted and done their time, they are free to live their life. This is America, and not China or another brutal police state. You can take your Scarlet Letter un-American ideas and crawl back into your hole of obscurity.

Hm. Guess we should get ready for a future story about a sex scandal involving Martinez-Fischer, because we all know what happens when pols use this platform to further their careers.

Interesting concept, but impossible to enforce.

There is no such thing as a backdoor to stripping the 1st amendment. Facebook illegally purges profiles of those arbitrarily labeled, sex offender. Because Facebook uses the sex offender registry in illegal ways, taht means, the registry doesn't have to be followed and isn't being followed. You don't really think you can label someone and systematically use that label to strip every single social avenue from that person? You are so stupid to think so. I laugh at the registry. I have Facebook accounts. I speak freely and without fear. Do you know how I do that? BY AVOIDING THE ILLEGAL SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY.

And how many offenders have fake names on Facebook? The numbers are endless! There is nothing to stop anyone from creating a fake profile. As for IP addresses, they can use any IP address to create it and stay on it. There are minors on Facebook who have profiles with fake ages because they are too young. They aren't being stopped from doing that. There is no solution to prevent this.
