SAN ANTONIO - The grand opening for San Antonio's oldest amusement park was held Monday. The Kiddie Park on Broadway is back open after undergoing several renovations to the rides and a brand new grand entrance.

The owners, Rad and Ashley Weaver, decided to take over the project to give parents a place to take their kids.

"Being a mother of a three-year-old, it's just that's the goal for us, to make it a place where kids can run around and parents can relax and everybody can have a good time," said Ashley Weaver.

The Kiddie Park was built back in 1925 during the Golden Age of Amusement Parks. It's the oldest kid's park in the United States. All the rides except the roller coaster have been restored and are ready to ride, including the original Carousel made in 1918.

The Kiddie Park is open from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. every day. They're located at 3015 Broadway St. Get more information online at kiddiepark.com

My family was pretty poor when I was growing up in SA in the 70's - Playland Park/Kiddie Park to me was like most other kids going to AstroWorld and WaterWorld back then - my grandmother would take me for a ride on the bus down to Broadway and we'd walk to the park where she'd pay for me to go on a couple of the rides. It felt like we had gone on the greatest vacation trip ever. Of course, that's when it use to be safe for an elderly lady with a small child to actually walk down Broadway... I only hope that a new generation can partake in and appreciate the simple fun and pleasure this park can provide-at the very least, maybe it will help pull a generation of sloth children away from their computers & video games for a few hours.

I remember my birthday party there 25 years ago. It was so much fun. I also remember the alligators next to the Witte. Classic childhood memories of a San Antonio child. I hope it looks better. Kiddie Park was starting to remind me of something out of Stephen King novel.

What's the fascination with this dump? I've been there, I've seen it myself.

I used to love going there. I can still remember the delicious smell of the ice cream/cotton candy machines. Walking around, hearing the pebbles squish under my feet. Feeling that I was a big kid cuz I could ride the ferris wheel by myself and being lifted in to the sky. That was my generation's family park; the post-Playland, pre-Seaworld/Fiesta Texas generation. Great effort to provide lasting memories to thousands more kids and kids at heart!!

way to go Rad....i played against him when he was at Clark...glad to see he was the true definition of a student athlete. Very well rounded guy who didnt take the passing of his father as an excuse during his adolesence and charged on. Glad to see someone give something back. I went as a kid because we couldnt afford AstroWorld or SixFlags, but i tell you what, getting my bones rattled on that rollercoaster when i was 5 yrs old, and eating a cold icee, those are memories i'll never forget. I'll be taking my kids.
