SAN ANTONIO - It's been almost a year since 21 year old Maggie McCombs was shot 5 times by an alleged stalker outside a local gym and her friend JC Escamilla was killed. It happened as they walked out of the Planet Fitness gym on 410 and Mcullough.

Maggie said, "You don't walk out of a gym and think someone is going to come at you with a gun and especially that they're going to try and kill you and try to kill the person you've been getting so close to and spending so much time with."
Maggie was left paralyzed from the shoulders down.
"It's not just that I can’t move but it affects your whole body and everything changes. I just feel like giving up on those days. It’s hard sometimes it doesn't feel like it’s worth it," Maggie expressed.
Maggie is fighting to move forward and is back at the gym. This special gym she goes to now is called Beyond the Chair. Specialists focus on people with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities.
Maggie said, "I hope it helps my body and maybe eventually one day get some movement or be able to hold myself up better."
The alleged shooter, 27-year-old Yu Masaki, is still awaiting trial. Maggie's family is facing financial challenges related to Maggie's medical care and in need to buy a vehicle that can accommodate her wheelchair. A website has been set up to donate to help Maggie. A few members of the community are working on a fundraiser to help Maggie and her family.
