SAN ANTONIO -- Hundreds showed up for 2012 San Antonio Zombie Walk Downtown over the weekend.

Zombie Scooby-Doo and his band of undead detectives were there, along with Batman, a villain from the movie “Silent Hill” and hundreds of other creatures.

“I’ve loved zombies for quite some time," said Ray Siera, aka Zombie Scooby-Doo. "I saw the movies. And as a kid and now as an adult, I get to be part of it, which is awesome.”

Even a zombie version of Obi-Wan Kenobi showed up to participate.

“Last year I saw these brilliant costumes, and I said 'I need to step up my game,'” Said Jason Rivera, aka Zombie Obi-Wan Kenobi. “I am waiting to see a Chew Chewbacca zombie around here.”

iPhones flashed everywhere in sight, as children and adults got their pictures taken with fictional characters, like Michael from the movie “Halloween.”

The event was scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Sunday. However, the main event really did not start until around 7:00 p.m. Then, with the sound of a megaphone, the zombies were off. As darkness fell, hundreds of zombies walked from Hemisphere Park to the Alamo and back.

After about two hours, the event was over. But, for many, it was just a warm up for the big event on Halloween, when they plan to dress in the same costumes.

“I am a zombie vampire bride,” said Rosemary Ruiz. “For the kids, pick up my baby, and she loves to get dressed…anything for the candy.”
