SAN ANTONIO -- Cameron Elementary broke ground today for a new renovation project. It's the first of 22 schools in the San Antonio Independent School District receiving makeovers from the district's 2010 bond vote. That bond allocated $515 million to make updgrades to the schools.
Cameron Elementary is getting $12.3 million for renovations including infrastructure repairs, classroom additions and upgrades to the instructional environment.
Those renovations are:
Adding 28,800 square feet to the school
New building entrance
Renovated cafeteria with walk-in refrigerators, coolers and a new stage in the cafetorium
Installing latest technology in all classrooms
Adding square footage to classrooms
Removing portable buildings from the campus
Renovating special education classrooms, including addition of a life skills classroom with a kitchenette and large restroom
Doubling the current amount of parking spaces for teachers and visitors
Relocating bus drop-off and pick-up location to the west side of campus, in an effort to relieve traffic congestion
Expanding and refurbishing library
Creating a second story to the campus, with music and art labs
