SAN ANTONIO -- There is new hope for disabled veterans who need a job. Enable America matches disabled veterans with companies in need of workers.
Some of the veterans participating in the program received hands-on training during a 'mentoring day' Thursday.
The jobs include everything from construction work at Brooke Army Medical Center's new expansion to managing those on the job.
"Disabled vets want the work," said Armando Sanchez Aballi of Enable America. "And there are employers that want to hire them."
Karl Rienmann was shot while in Vietnam. He is now learning skills he needs to find a new job in the construction business.
"When I came back, I brought 12 body bags back out at Fort Sam," said Rienmann. "And ever since then, I wanted to be involved."
Rienmann was matched with Clark Construction, because of his background. So was Ryan Haller, who was injured during peace time.
"It helps be able to see that," Haller said. "So that I can see what can be expected and what I should set my goals at on big projects like this."
Enable America is still looking for large employers and disabled vets for their next mentoring day, which is set for early next year.
