KENEDY, Texas -- Officials at the John B. Connally Unit maximum-security prison in Karnes County have confirmed they have had to move nearly 400 prisoners because they do not have enough guards.
The Eagle Ford Shale is to blame, according to prison officials. They say correctional officers are leaving to take shale-related jobs, leaving more than 200 prison jobs vacant.
No word on when the prisoners will be moved, but the prison is hiring and offering big signing bonuses to fill the slots.
