This country, for all the palaver, has no interest in solving the issue of illegal immigration. It isn't all that complicated and guess what- it was solved a long time ago, but the solution has fallen out of favor. I am sure that is the case because so many people benefit from illegal immigration. About fifty years ago, there was a program called the Bracero Program. Mexicans (mostly) who wanted to work in the US were given a brown card that allowed them to come and go in the US and have certain specific jobs. This program was designed primarily to provide agricultural labor, but not entirely. Mexicans who wanted to work here were matched up with employers and everyone benefitted. The labor was there when it was needed and it was harder to cheat the laborers out of their wages. Most Mexicans who come here just to work have no more interest in becoming Americans than Americans in the oil business have in becoming citizens of Saudi Arabia. Why should they? They are Mexicans and happy to be so. The Bracero Program kept labor available for farmers and others who needed it, but kept the immigrants from filling up positions that need to be kept open for Americans. As an example, there were plenty of Americans in Texas who made a living reroofing houses. Those are almost all done by illegals today. Reinstituting the Bracero Program would be an almost instant fix for the problem, but too many people are getting rich on the backs of these people. Also, I am baffled by the idea that Americans of Mexican ancestry are in favor of just opening the gates. I am in the construction business and I live in San Antonio. Naturally, I know dozens of Mexican Americans who are in the construction business. The only ones that I know who are in favor of illegal immigration are those who hire illegals cheap. It has nothing to do with brotherly love.

FreeHole, since you seem less than happy in the country of your professed exile (USA), maybe you would enjoy Switzerland as your next one. Did you choose to get US Citizenship, or are you a permanent resident? I, personally, have to problem with LEGAL immigrants and those that chose permanent residency. I care that they are legal and good citizens and contribute to our society.

And the federal congress will give the 11 million the free pass. Citizenship is a personal choice that they can take or not. It's not mandatory. Some are happy just being permanent residents. What...you want to punish them for that, too?

Sure Castro, like your mother who is a shining example of foreigners who hate the USA even though they have benefitted immensely from our country. This is a woman who has disparaged the Heroes of the Alamo because she, like most mexicans I've ever met, are mexican first. You can't change a leopard spots, and you can't make a foreigner an American unless they're willing to embrace our culture and assimilate. There's no such thing as a mexican flag-waving American, Castro.

Switzerland has 3 official languages, and cities like Geneva post signs in certain places (laundrymat) in up to 10 different languages. There's a country not divided by hatred. Xenophobia, like all phobias, affect the weak-minded only.

Nobama and Castro will find a way to give those two thirds a free pass.

No-English, no Citizenship. PERIOD. We Speak ENGLISH in the USA. Do you see GERMAN, ITALIAN or SPANISH highway road signs? NO! This country needs to stop being politically correct and make English the official national language. Every other damn country has an official language!
