East Bexar County has seen spikes in crimes throughout the past few months and Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz wants that to change.
Today, Sheriff Ortiz announced the progress of
Operation Clean Sweep. The program was a three-day intitiative held from September 5-7, that targeted violent offenders and gang members in The Glen neighborhood.
Sheriff Ortiz said the operation was needed, as residents living in the area were having their daily lives interrupted and affected by the violence.
Operation Clean Sweep Goals:- Arrest felony fugitive offenders
- Reduce the number of offenses in the targeted/surrounding areas
- Reduce the severity of harm caused by the targeted offenses
- Increase the sense of safety felt by the general public and the communities that these problems directly affect
- Increase the perception of the people directly affected by these problems that the situation has/will improve
- Increase the perception of offenders and potential offenders that they are at a higher risk of arrest, and they will alter their behavior because of it
So far, the operation has yielded results that Sheriff Ortiz said will improve the quality of life for area residents.
Operation Clean Sweep Results:- 91 Arrested Persons
- 97 Warrants Cleared (including murder, assault, sex crimes, burglary, narcotics)
- 3 weapons seized
- Recovery of stolen property valued at approximately $30,000
- Recovery of 2 stolen vehicles valued at approximately $20,000
- Several on-sight narcotics arrest with the recovery of cocaine and marijuana
